Roundtable Discussions
At the end of last year, the WDSF Presidium had invited all National Member Bodies to send representatives to Barcelona, ESP, for a round of discussions on DanceSport, its governing body and other relevant topics. It was explicitly stipulated that these discussions should adhere to an agenda that was to be established by the Members.
After a change of the inititially proposed date, Member Bodies from the following countries were able to be represented on 2 March in Barcelona: England, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, United States of America. The WDSF President, the First Vice-President and the Sports Director attended in representation of the Presidium.
The first and only order of the day consisted in compiling the list of topics that were to be discussed, and in applying a certain structure to the latter. Discussions covered the following general areas.
- WDSF relationship with other dance organisations
- WDSF rules for competition and adjudicating
- Decision-taking processes within WDSF
- WDSF Professional Division and its implementation at national level
- Continental federations/associations
It was the President of the Swiss DanceSport Federation, Marc-Fédéric Schäfer, who ably moderated the discussions over seven full hours.
In a first analysis, feedback on this roundtable format was so positive - from Members as well as Presidium - that a repeat is already being conisdered for a similar timeframe in 2014. Attendance by National Member Bodies should increase further for the second round of discussions then.
