First Ever IDSF Athletes' Forum

Timo Kulczak, GER, IDSF Athletes' Commission Chair The IDSF Athletes Commission invited all interested dancers to its "Athletes' Forum" meeting during the 2010 German Open Championships, held 17 to 21 August in Stuttgart. Commission Chair Timo Kulczak welcomed about 100 attendants, who gathered in a large assembly room in the Maritim Hotel Stuttgart.

IDSF President Carlos Freitag spoke briefly and said he was very pleased with the high attendance at this meeting. He told the audience about the importance of competitors' representation for a more effective administration of ISDF.

Timo Kulczak as the spokesperson of all competitors presented his thoughts about the Commission's worldwide representation of active DanceSport athletes. He also asked athletes to consider running for the five or possibly six positions open on the IDSF Athletes' Commission during the next elections in 2011.

IDSF 2nd Vice-President Natasa Ambroz introduced IDSF''s new judging system for IDSF Grand Slam finals and spoke about  future teaching projects, e.g. the IDSF DanceSport Academy's proposed workshops. Afterwards, IDSF Anti-Doping Commission Chair Ko de Mooy talked about the important topic of anti-doping measures implemented by IDSF and Dr Ineke Crijns of the Commission gave additional information about inevitable and often dangerous side effects of doping.

Jim Fraser, Ordinary Member of the IDSF Presidium, ended the introduction to this first Forum by encouraging the athletes present to speak out on their interests by being candidates for election to the Athletes Commission or supporting the Commission's Members by providing feedback;  he emphasised that the Presidium does not know what athletes think unless athletes communicate it directly to the Presidium.

The IDSF Presidium Members then thanked Timo Kulczak for the opportunity to speak, and left the meeting so that it could proceed as a meeting of athletes only, without any other people present.  The meeting lasted for about an hour before adjournment, and Mr Kulczak expressed his satisfaction with the wide-ranging and informative discussions.
