2012 WDSF General Meeting
It was an eventful meeting for delegates representing WDSF Member Bodies from 64 countries and three Associate Members.
In fact, the day started off with the most delicate decision that had to be taken.
First item on the agenda was the expulsion of a longstanding National Member Body, the Russian DanceSport Federation. DSFR had lost official recognition by the Russian state and sporting authorities in December 2011 which then led to the organisation's de facto inability to stage national and international DanceSport championships in Russia until 2016.
On the grounds that DanceSport in Russia can therefore no longer be administered properly by DSFR, and considering that the Russian authorities had transferred their recognition to a new organisation already, the Presidium moved to expel its current member DSFR.
Given the magnitude of the decision, the discussion was heated, at times even transgressing the barriers that mutual respect and courtesy should impose.
In the ensuing vote the Presidium's motion was carried by the required majority and the membership of DSFR was terminated.
Update
In its meeting on Monday, 18 June, the WDSF Presidium approved the membership application of the Russian DanceSport Union and instated it as a full National Member Body.
