In his traditional New Year's message, IOC President Thomas Bach called on sports organisations to safeguard their credibility and to protect clean athletes. "As the role and relevance of sport in society continues to grow, so do the expectations of the public vis-à-vis the integrity of athletes and sports organisations," Bach wrote. "It is our shared responsibility in the Olympic Movement to provide new answers to new questions."
Bach believes that "recent developments in some sports cast a shadow across the whole world of sport" and expects all governing bodies belonging to the Olympic Movement to follow the IOC's example in two key areas: good governance and the prevention of competition manipulation.
