A task force working on the standardisation of scrutineering software published a catalogue of requirements that a product must meet in order to obtain an official WDSF certification.
An efficient process for testing and verifying a software's compliance with the WDSF defined requirements is in place since May. And the requirement for all scrutineering software products used in WDSF sanctioned competitions to be certified goes into effect from January 2013.
With the certified scrutineering software the publication of the official competition results on worlddancesport.org is brought to a new level in terms of turn-around time. What in the past used to be a "wait until Monday or Tuesday" pattern at best, now becomes one of real-time "round danced, result posted."
The Moskovitch DanceSport Championships this fall were the first WDSF event that posted competition results from the venue straight to this website, and without anyone on this end having to reformat and upload html files.
John Caprez, the WDSF webmaster and developer of the Application Programming Interface (API) that makes this possible, writes about the landmark event to his fellow programmers. "As you all know, it can be quite hard at times to get the results of a competition onto our website in a timely manner,"John writes. "For this I am very proud to report on the first competition results that have been uploaded from the competition venue directly to our website with me being on holidays."
The responsible scrutineer was Boris Gulay. "Without Boris' enthusiastic participation, the project would probably have taken much more time to premiere in real competition," said Caprez.
LIVE RESULTS were also available from the World Championships in Vienna, AUT, and Melbourne, AUS, as well as the GrandSlam Finals in Shanghai, CHN.
