IDSF at London SportAccord

World Artistic Games

During this year's SportAccord convention in London, IDSF President Carlos Freitag and First Vice-President Lukas Hinder met with their counterparts of several other International Federations to start planning for the inaugural World Artistic Games.

A brainchild of the International DanceSport Federation, these games are to present the artistic side of sports to the world through top-level competition and galas.

Participating sports will likely include DanceSport, Gymnastics, Synchronised Swimming and Diving, Artistic Cycling, Artistic Roller Skating and even Artistic Aeronautics. Around 800
athletes will be invited to participate and compete for medals.

IDSF President Freitag presented the draft concept for the games - under the working title 'Sport & Art' - to SportAccord in November 2009. SportAccord, as the umbrella organisation for all International Sports Federations (IFs), then coordinated the further development of the concept among those IFs governing artistic sports. The World Artistic Games will be organised under the 'SportAccord' brand, just as the Mind Games, Beach Games and Combat Games.

Currently, the IFs are striving to coordinate a period of six days sometime between September and November 2012 to stage the first edition of the World Artistic Games.
