IDSF Competitions Liege - Belgium
14th Belgium IDSF Open
Grand Prix de la ville de Liege
In Palais de Congres de Liege
Last weekend, Oct. 18th and 19th 2008, the annual great event in Belgium, Grand Prix
de la ville de Liege took place at the Palais des Congres de Liege, organized by TSC Perron and Monique and Hubert de Maesschalk . Main events were the IDSF International Open Standard and Latin and the World Championship Senior II Standard.
167 couples entered this very interesting event. Dancing a World Championship is always a highlight in the career of each competing couple, so many Senior couples took the opportunity. The other World Championships are restricted to two representing couples
for each IDSF Member Federation, not so in the Senior II Standard. So everybody can come and enjoy the atmosphere of such a great event. There are some Federations, which restricted the number of participating couples, e.g. Italy nominated only 12 couples.
So it was a rather long day for all these couples, dancing their first round in the early morning. The finalists had to dance at least 6 rounds. The final promised to be very interesting as the reigning Champion did not dance and also the 2nd couple could
not compete. So there was a challenge for the title this year.
Winners and new World Champions 2008 are Michael und Beate Lindner from Germany, 2nd and Vicechampion Walter Valenta and Irmtraud Maurer from Austria, in 3rd place Bernd Farwick and Petra Voosholz from Germany.
Two International Open – Standard and Latin- were also part of the Belgium IDSF Open. Over 60 couples in each category took part, the audience could see very high level dancesport. Especially in Standard many of the top ranked
couples came to compete in this event. They proved their high quality of dancing and showed to be well prepared for the coming World Championship.
