Eurovision Dance Contest 2008
Poland was the winner of the Eurovision Dance Contest (EDC) 2008. 14 couples from as many countries around Europe competed in the EDC. As per the rules for this year's edition, each couple comprised a professional dancer and a national celebrity. They had two minutes to impress the jury panel consisting of four IDSF Adjudicators as well as millions of TV viewers. Polish dancer Edyta Herbus and actor Marcin Mroczek won the contest with a fusion of Rumba and Cha-Cha flavoured with Michael Jackson-style moonwalking. Poland accumulated 154 points in total, Ukraine came second with 121 points, Russia came third with 119 points.
The IDSF President, Mr Carlos Freitag, and the Secretary General, Mr Marco Sietas, were at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow and watched the performances from the front row.
"Poland and DanceSport deserved to win tonight," Freitag said after the award was presented to Herbus and Mroczek.
"The Polish couple showed an entertaining routine which was technically beyond reproach. Even if their routine was slightly different from the formats we have grown accustomed to in our other IDSF competitions, it was DanceSport nevertheless!"
