Cheerleading Update
The International Federation of Cheerleading (IFC), an Adssociate Member of WDSF, paved the way for the future of the sport and this year's Cheerleading World Championships in particular at its Annual General Meeting held recently in Berlin, GEROne of the major points of business was the Executive Board member elections. Re-elected unanimously were Robert Huber (GER) as Senior Vice President, Liudmila Zueva (RUS) as Vice President and Secretary General, Dr. Thitipong Nandhabiwat (THA) as Director and Noralma Endaru (ECU) as Treasurer.
IFC President Setsuo Nakamura informed the delegates about the positive current status of membership and cooperation with WDSF and the many benefits that the Associate Membership with WDSF brings for both the IFC and its members.
During the meeting, Denmark, Ireland and Russian Federation were accepted unanimously as members of IFC.
In relation to the World Championships in Berlin, the most important decisions came towards the end of the session. As great emphasis is placed on the development of athletes under the age of 16, it was announced that the 1st Junior Cheerleading World Championships will commence in Berlin alongside the senior competition. The exact format is currently under review and will be determined shortly following consultation with the members of IFC.
It was also announced that a new division "Cheer Dance Doubles", will be introduced at the World Championships in Berlin and a number of existing categories have been renamed.
