Cali takes pride in being known as the 'Capital of Salsa,' and as such it was tipped as one of the world's top travel destinations for 2011 by none less than the New York Times.
The President of the International World Games Association, Ron Froehlich, referred to DanceSport as a trendsetter in an interview on the development of The World Games.
"Two years ago, in Kaohsiung, the number of spectators topped the one million mark for the first time. Remember, 15,000 spectators came to the final of Latin American dances alone. That was a world record. We are set to carry on with this development in Cali. But you don’t have to pin it down to numbers alone. The organisers plan to stage the DancSport competitions in a bullfighting arena. I take it for granted that this extraordinary setting will produce fantastic images to go around the world."
