B-girl Vale and b-boy Broly will represent their home country Argentina in breaking’s first appearance at an Olympic event this October at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Buenos Aires.  We asked them how they feel about this unique opportunity and how they are preparing for the competition in front of the home crowd.

Vale says: “I feel very proud to represent my country at home at the YOG. For that same reason, I feel a lot of pressure, but the happiness is much bigger.”

“It’s the best thing that happened to me,” says Broly. “I feel a bit pressured because I have to represent my country in my country. But I know I am prepared to do my best.”

To make sure they are in top shape for the competition, the two 18-year olds say they are pushing themselves a lot in practice.

“I’m training a lot,” says Broly. “I’m trying to be creative to have new moves and to optimise the moves that I already have.”

“I train from Monday to Friday,” reveals Vale. “Lately I am perfecting my current routine considering there is not much time left for the big day. I watch my videos, I self-analyse, and concentrate on the objective. I go to the gym after each training to get stronger and increase my endurance. At home I stick to the diet recommended by my nutritionist. I go to sleep and wake up early so my body doesn't get tired. At night I meditate and reflect on what I did during the day and prepare myself for the next day.”

B-boy Broly has already visited the Youth Olympic Village, which will host the nearly 4,000 young athletes participating at the Games in 32 different sports. “It’s awesome,” he says. “I feel lots of vibes around me.” Vale shares his excitement: “I feel YOG vibes all the time, during every workout, before going to sleep and when I wake up.”

The Opening Ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games will be on 6 October 2018. There will be three breaking events: one for b-boys, one for b-girls and one team event featuring mixed-gender pairs from different countries. The single events will be held on 7 and 8 October 2018 and the mixed events on 10 and 11 October 2018. You can follow all the action live on www.breakingforgold.com or on www.olympicchannel.com.
