Anti-Doping
WDSF has been, is and will always be an organisation fully compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code, continuing the quest to eradicate doping in DanceSport.
From 2004, they year the Code entered into force, WDSF started to implement its anti-doping programme – and it has refined it further ever since. Particularly in the areas of awareness, education as well as reporting, efforts have been stepped up and significant improvements have been made (WDSF Anti-Doping).
On the application form for the Athlete’s ID Card, each dancer is now requested to confirm by signature that he/she is
- cognisant of the WDSF Anti-Doping Code, and that
- he/she will submit to any testing under the latter’s terms, provisions and procedures.
Will I suddenly have to give my blood for analysis too?
FW, Germany
The short and only answer: YES! If you are selected, you will have to submit to the procedure outlined here. But bear in mind that there is absolutely no change over the status quo. You have been giving your consent to blood testing all along in the forms you had/have to fill in prior to major competitions. The process is merely being simplified for everybody’s convenience.
The people in the picture above are the members of the WADA Athletes’ Commission. In their most recent meeting, they advocated that the number of blood tests be increased further (here) … Even if they didn’t think of DanceSport first when they considered the measure to be necessary, blood testing is and will always be an option.
