ARISF Elections

International Powerboating Union President Raffaele Chiulli, ITA, and World DanceSport Federation President Carlos Freitag, ESP, stand as candidates in today's election for the presidency of the Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations.

Both candidates have presented their programmes to the electorate.

Carlos Freitag

Carlos Freitag We come off the consecutive terms of strong presidents who succeeded in establishing ARISF as a true constituent to the Olympic Movement. Ron Froehlich and Jan Fransoo redefined the organisation’s purpose by engaging, on behalf of the ARISF Members, in well-balanced dialogue with the International Olympic Committee, the National Olympic Committees as well as other sports organisations.

The circumspect approach in their negotiations with the very powers that give ARISF its reason for existence has produced excellent results. That the entire membership is able to benefit from these results is certainly their merit.

I see myself as a candidate committed to continuity. It is my belief that not short-lived action but diligence and endurance will be required to keep our organisation on track towards attaining its ambitious objectives.

With the periodic review of the Olympic Sports Programme now well established, the list of recognised sports, too, will get altered from time to time. New sports will join as they achieve their IOC recognition, some sports will re-join as they get dropped from the Olympic programme. A select few sports will leave our ranks and files: their governing bodies either becoming Olympic Federations – but that maybe only for a single Olympic cycle – or failing to revalidate their recognised status.

This mobility, upward and downward, brings a number of new challenges to our organisation. I am ready to take them on and to work together with the ARISF Council in the following areas.

Raffaele Chuilli

Raffaele Chiulli Much has been accomplished during the last years but I cannot remember a time in my long tenure at the ARISF when we have been faced with so many challenges that touch the very soul of our Institution.

Today, the ARISF is at a crossroads and the choices we make will determine the future of our Association and of our Sports. It is crucial that we get this right. By working together openly and in a collective spirit of good faith we can and will succeed.

If I am elected, it will be my pledge to you to work diligently to making the ARISF relevant to all its stakeholders – International Federations, SportAccord, IOC and others - so that our chosen direction carries with it the weight and force of all our Members. This can be achieved by a renewed emphasis on certain fundamental values such as transparency, fairness, due process and loyalty to our Institution.

My detailed work program is reinforced by the 3 following principles: ensure that ARISF will be playing a key role in helping its Member Federations in their quest for inclusion in the Olympic events; protect ARISF

Members as worldwide sport representatives via participation to the SportAccord Council; establish ARISF Convention to breed a new value proposition, renew the corporate image and allow ARISF to work closely with the IF’s for the revitalization of our Sports.
