New Ranking List Regulations in Standard and Latin disciplines

WDSF World Ranking List

Dear Athletes,
Dear Organisers,
Dear Officials,

We are very excited to announce two special projects in the upcoming period that the WDSF Sports Department has been working hard on.

The first one out of two is a major update to the Ranking List for the Adult age category in Standard and Latin disciplines. This announcement comes after the highly significant gathering held on June 10, 2023, at the facilities of the National Olympic Committee of Spain, where the WDSF Forum took place. The outcomes and feedback from this forum played a pivotal role in shaping the new ranking system we are about to introduce.

As a part of our ongoing efforts to promote fair and transparent competition and build upon the measures already announced during the 2019 WDSF Forum in Budapest, Hungary, we are introducing additional anti-manipulation measures to safeguard the integrity of DanceSport and ensure a level playing field for all participants.

The World DanceSport Federation has carefully considered the current challenges posed by COVID-19 and the geopolitical crisis impacting Europe and the rest of the world. In response to these extraordinary circumstances and with the aim of supporting the recovery of DanceSport, the WDSF Sports Department has devised a new ranking system to take effect on August 31, with the new calculation being considered as of September 1, 2023.

The primary objective of this restructuring is to provide much-needed impetus for our dedicated athletes and to achieve a more balanced WDSF Competition System. The new ranking list will now be based on six competitions, just like before, but with a modified distribution to adapt to the changing landscape of DanceSport events.

The distribution of the six competitions for the Adult age category in both Standard and Latin disciplines will be as follows:

GrandSlam: 2 events
World Open: 2 events
International Open: 2 events

However, in favour of enhancing the significance of GrandSlam competitions, up to four best results from GrandSlams will be allowed to contribute to the ranking list, whereas the remaining two results will be allocated equally between World Opens and International Opens, with a minimum of one result from each.

Additionally, we are introducing a new feature where the WDSF Open can replace any of the aforementioned types of events. This change allows athletes to fulfil the minimum requirement of six results necessary to achieve the maximum number of points.

With these adjustments, we firmly believe that the new ranking implementation will not only motivate our talented athletes but also foster a healthier and more competitive DanceSport environment.

Please note that this update only affects the Adult age category in the Standard and Latin disciplines. All other age categories and disciplines will continue to follow the existing ranking system.

We appreciate your understanding and enthusiasm in embracing this positive change, which we believe will pave the way for a bright future for DanceSport. As always, the WDSF remains committed to supporting and promoting the sport we all love.

Should you have any questions or clarifications regarding the new ranking list implementation for the Adult age category, please do not hesitate to contact the WDSF Sports Admin Office at [email protected].

WDSF Rising Stars Ranking List

Another WDSF special ranking project is for the Rising Stars category. All WDSF Rising Stars competitions will be Ranking competitions, so the Rising Stars couples will have the opportunity to compete for a wild card through the WDSF Rising Stars Ranking list, which brings them the opportunity to participate in the WDSF World Championship in the Adult age category.

More detailed information about this project will be released very soon, and the implementation of the WDSF Rising Stars Ranking list is planned for September 1.

As part of this project is a specifically design prestige Rising Stars competitions, namely, the WDSF Rising Stars World Challenge Cup and the first competition of this kind will be in October.

Warm regards,
 Nenad Jeftic
