Live from Cambrils

Emmanuel Valeri - Tania Kehlet, DEN © Anashina Easter on Catalonia’s Golden Cost is one of the more traditional fixtures in the annual DanceSport calendar. Going into its tenth edition this year, the D.O. World DanceSport keeps its focus on Europe when it comes to the championships and other competitions scheduled over the four days.

D.O. starts off with the European DanceSport Clubs Cup that gets underway on Thursday 24 March. The unique competition that pitches clubs and studios from different European countries against each other was invented right here by the host and organiser Antoni Mas.

Saturday 26 March should produce a déjà-vu effect for some of the dancers as it brings the European Youth Latin back to Cambrils. The same championship was held here on 5 April 2015. With Dmitry Kulebakin – Maria Chernikh, RUS, and Ardeiu Fabian – Manea Andreea Raluca, ROU, two of the medallists then return to the floor at the Municipal Sports Pavilion.

The second highlight of Saturday is the Professional Division European Standard that brings some of the biggest names in DanceSport to Cambrils.

What saddens the insiders is the fact that not all of them appear to be present – at least that is how it looks at three days to go until the championship gets underway. All those who were looking forward to another epic battle between the reigning European Champions Ferruggia – Koehler, GER, and Valeri – Kehlet, DEN, will most likely have to content themselves with the recording of last year’s championship in Copenhagen, DEN.
