Latin Rhythms in Rimini
It comes unseasonally late, but it comes at long last: the 2016 European Latin. It was supposed to happen in Paris this spring, now it has been moved to summer and the Adriatic Riviera.
As a consequence of the terrorist attacks on 13 November 2015, the Paris organisers reported that they were unable to "preserve the moral comfort of athletes and officials" in the French capital. Enhanced security measures imposed by the national government would have made the organisation of the high-profile international event financially unviable as scheduled.
That's when the Italian DanceSport Federation offered to integrate the championship into its flagship event Sportdance Rimini, a sort of "Italian Open" that moves some 150,000 people between 3 and 10 July. The 63 Latin couples dancing for the European title on 9 July were easily accommodated. Starting from tomorrow, follow the championship on the "Live from Rimini" blog!
