Barcelona Roundtable II
A first report on the roundtable discussions between Members and Presidium was published here last month already.
Today we publish summaries by the moderator of these discussions, the President of the Swiss DanceSport Federation Marc Schaefer, and by WDSF President Carlos Freitag.
On 2 March all Member Federations of the WDSF were invited to meet in Barcelona for the first open discussion with the WDSF presidium. Seven federations from Europe and the USA Dance accepted the invitation and travelled to Spain to meet with our President Carlos Freitag, our First Vice-President Lukas Hinder and our Sports Director Marco Sietas. The meeting took place in a very friendly atmosphere and the participants had the opportunity to discuss in a very open and constructive way. It was very interesting to learn about the different points of view of recent developments and all participants had the opportunity to address expectations and concerns directly to our presidium.
It was a very interesting experience for all participants that the round table started without any agenda except the breaks for lunch. In a first “tour de table” the most important topics which the participants wanted to discuss during that Saturday were exchanged. After the first round it was quite obvious that mainly five issues would be at the heart of the roundtable discussion: the relationship between the WDSF and IDO as well as WDC, how to proceed with the professional division, the decision-making process at the AGM, rules and regulations and continental federations. Another highlight of the round table was the presentation of the guidelines regarding brand and visual Identity, broadcasting and marketing and promotion.
Overall, the round-table discussion was a very enriching experience for all participants, for the presidium as well as for the participating member federations. We had a great exchange of experiences made by the member federations WDSF and I think everybody took a lot of new ideas home of how to think out of the box to develop our DanceSport. Therefore I would like to thank Lukas Hinder for coming up with the idea of an open discussion and I hope that this format will be used more often in the future, because working together in such a constructive way brings us all farther. And maybe some of the ideas discussed at the round table will show up at the next AGM.
