Two WDSF World Championships and one WDSF European Championship competed in Rotterdam (NED)
Rotterdam (NED) hosted a three-day Championship weekend with two World titles and one European title up for grabs.
The 2024 WDSF World Championship Senior II Standard with 98 couples had the honour to kick-off the spectacular event. The six-round Championship ended with a beautiful final of seven couples, after which the reigning World Champions Ruben Viciana Lopez – Eva Moya (ESP) were crowned as the World title holders again this year. Last year’s bronze medallists Gatis Simsons – Julija Simsone (LAT) nailed their Viennese Waltz and Slow Foxtrot in the final and the couple was awarded with silver medals. Tomas Rimkus – Nerija Surblyte (LTU), the reigning European Champions, ranked third.
The 2024 WDSF European Championship U21 Latin served as the highlight of the second day. Last year’s World and European Championship silver medallist couple Luigi La Rocca – Marika Maria Scerra (ITA) impressed everyone with their dynamic and elegant dancing and the talented couple won the European title by winning all five dances of the final. Germany’s Demid Anisimov – Giuliana Domingues da Silva danced their way to the podium and ranked second, and a Youth couple, Romania’s Kostner Walter Bogdan – Vida Kamilla had an amazing final which earned them the bronze medals.
The final day of the event turned out as a celebration for the German couples. Five out of six couples in the final of the 2024 WDSF World Championship Senior I Ten Dance were Germans. The reigning European Champions and last year’s silver medallists Fabian Wendt – Anne Steinmann (GER) were happy to lift the World Championship trophy after winning six dances of the final, five of them in Standard. Dominic Thutewohl – Mariann Thutewohl, last year’s bronze medallists and this year’s European silver medallists won four dances in the final, ranked second in six and earned the World Championship silver in Rotterdam. The bronze medals were presented to Christian Platz – Anja Platz (GER).
The beautifully organised traditional Holland Masters event with three full days of colourful and vibrant Standard and Latin dancing turned out to be a true success again this year. The official WDSF title events are organized with support of the Dutch National Olympic Committee, the Dutch Ministry of Sports and the City of Rotterdam.
