The WDSF Breaking for Gold World Series in Shanghai, organized in collaboration with FISE as part of their World Series, kicked off today with high energy and over 70 athletes registered to compete. This qualifying event offers critical points toward The World Games 2025, set to take place in Chengdu, People's Republic of China.

Despite grey skies and some rain, nothing could dampen the Breaking spectacle at Shanghai’s West Bund. More than 1,000 spectators gathered to witness incredible performances from athletes who came from all over the world. The crowd was thrilled by the presence of multiple Olympic-level athletes such as Shigekix, Quake, and Lithe-ing among the B-Boys, and Ayumi, India, and Anti among the B-Girl.

This BfG World Series event also showcased a wealth of young talent, with several athletes who recently competed at the WDSF World Championship Breaking Youth held just weeks ago in Wuxi, China.

After a brief break following Pre-Selection, the Pre-Qualifier matches took place, featuring intense head-to-head battles. The local audience was treated to a top-tier display of Breaking from the very start of the competition. People’s Republic of China stands strong with 7 B-Boys and 4 B-Girls advancing to the Top16, positioning them as serious contenders for the event title. Japan also shows formidable strength with 3 B-Boys and 3 B-Girls in the next round. Not to be overlooked are Brazil’s 4 athletes (3 B-Boys and 1 B-Girl) and Italy’s 3 B-Girls, all of whom aim to claim the gold.
