The 2023 WDSF World Championship caravan landed in Salaspils (LAT)
The second half of November kept the 2023 WDSF World Championship caravan moving to Salaspils (LAT) for the exciting WDSF World Championship U21 Standard event. 68 couples under 21 years of age representing 24 countries entered the Championship and offered a spectacular show for the Latvian spectators and everyone following the magnificent event online.
And what a final it was!
The 2023 WDSF European Championship U21 Standard bronze medalists Aleksey Bessonov – Sarah Sofie Barjabin (EST) won the Waltz and the Quickstep, were tied with the runners up Butnaru Luca Teodor - Bidica Julia Denisa (ROU) in Tango and were ranked second in the Viennese Waltz and the Quickstep. With this table and sum of 7,5 points the Estonian couple won their first ever World title.
The Romanian silver medalist couple had won silver also last year and in 2021 in World Championship Youth Standard, and their first year in Adults kept the rain of medals pouring in for the talented couple. The couple won the Slow Foxtrot in the final in addition to the tie in Tango, scoring sum of 10,5 points, which earned them the runner-up position.
The bronze medalist couple, Yaroslav Kiselev – Sofia Filipchuk (ARM) impressed the Adjudicator panel in Viennese Waltz and ranked second in Waltz, scoring sum of 12 points and being awarded the World Championship bronze medals. The couple managed well to keep up with the excellent performances, as this couple had already won the 2023 World title in U21 Latin in October, and the 2023 European title in U21 Ten Dance in September.
Aurimas Meska - Aine Rutkauskaite (LTU), Marc Mateos – Julia Kruger (ESP) and Maxim Zhilenkov – Alua Kargabaeva (KAZ) added to the exciting final with their beautiful dancing, which awarded them rankings from fourth to sixth in respective order.
It seemed like the couples received energy from each other, and managed to push themselves and their fellow finalists to the next level, making it a wonderful and enjoyable day in Salaspils with these young, talented couples at the centre stage.
Thank you, and congratulations to all!
