DO World DanceSport in Sant Cugat, ESP 13/04/2011

Press Conference Sant Cugat, ESP

With a press conference in the town hall of Sant Cugat, a city just 20 km west of Barcelona, the countdown to DO World DanceSport has officially started yesterday.

City officials and organisers were able to count on the presence of DanceSport's highest authority, IDSF President Carlos Freitag. In fact, President Freitag has taken up residence in Sant Cugat many years ago, and the IDSF offices are - since 2002 - set up there as well.

The fifth edition of DO World DanceSport, organised once more by Antonio Mas of ATA Productions, was initially planned to take place in Sitges, a coastal resort near Barcelona, but had to be brought "inland" at the very last moment due to a scheduling conflict.

President Freitag and Antonio Mas thanked the City Councillor for Sports, Xavier Amador, for his role in lining up Sant Cugat's support and infrastructure on the shortest of notice.

The 2011 IDSF World Junior Ten Dance and the European Youth Latin are the two main events scheduled over the five days - World Dance Sports extends from 21 to 25 April - and both will be reported on in "Live from Sant Cugat" blogs on this website (see below). Other events are IDSF International Opens, HipHop competitions and seminars, and the traditional Wheelchair DanceSport Invitational.

On 22 April, Good Friday, the approximately 1,500 dancers involved in DO World DanceSport will pay tribute to the victims of the earthqake and tsunami in Japan.
