Artistic Sports 11/02/2014

Slopestyle Snowboarding © IOC That performances in DanceSport are assessed by a panel of judges lies in the nature of things. That many of the skiing and snowboarding events on the Olympic Programme are also judged - and not timed, measured or else - could come as a surprise.

Let's take freestyle skiing! Out of the five events on the programme of Sochi 2014 four are judged by a panel of experts who award points by applying a set of criteria to their observations. Much like in DanceSport under the Judging System 2.0!

Only in Ski Cross are the performances timed. Halfpipe and Slopestyle are also contested in snowboarding.

As you watch some of these Olympic events over the coming days look for more common terrain between them and other artistic sports, DanceSport included.
