WDSF Statement on Red Bull Partnership
As the Internationally Recognized Federation for DanceSport entrusted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the organisation and governance of Breaking at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) takes its obligations seriously.
Having successfully delivered the Breaking events at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, the 2019 World Urban Games in Budapest, and the 2019 WDSF World Breaking Championships in Nanjing, the WDSF recently turned its focus toward preparing the best possible Breaking competition at Paris 2024 after Breaking was added to the Olympic sports programme in December 2020.
With that goal in mind, the WDSF signed an MoU with Red Bull in December last year aimed at partnering on a series of Breaking events on the road to Paris 2024. Unfortunately, ongoing talks with Red Bull ultimately have not resulted in the finalization of a contract.
Red Bull decided not to continue in talks with the WDSF for a global deal, a decision the WDSF regrets but respects.
As the global governing body for DanceSport, the WDSF is responsible for working in the best interests of all Breaking athletes. The WDSF will continue to work diligently on behalf of all Breakers worldwide based on a policy of inclusivity that is open to the entire Breaking community. In this respect, WDSF and WDSF member bodies are working collaboratively and directly with key members of the Breaking community to ensure that the community will be fully engaged with the successful journey to Paris 2024.
The WDSF is sincerely grateful for the efforts made by Red Bull and all intermediate parties, irrespective of the outcome. We thank Red Bull for their efforts with Breaking and remain open to discussions on cooperation in the future.
