The Masters' Voices

2011 Lignano European Masters Games One of the 62 couples competing in the European Masters Games in Lignano, ITA, came all the way from Australia.

Frederick Gerloff and Xiao Bing Zhong picked the European Masters above all for one reason. "We have the possibility of meeting new people, different cultures and traditions, as well as seeing sports that we are unable to follow in everyday life,” they told the journalists.

2011 Lignano was their first time in an international competition. “It’s like being at the Olympics, but here everybody is more friendly,” the couple summed up their experience.

Obviously, the two Aussie dancers carved out some time to visit the region and were enthusiastic with what they saw. “We saw the coast and the mountains, from Grado to Sella Nevea and the landscapes were just amazing.”

Another couple is already experienced in terms of international competition. But here they competed on home turf. The organisers interviewed them about their motivation for dancing competitively. "It's a challenge  to overcome timidity," they told the television reporter. "To dance before an audienence in the hundreds or even thousands puts the pressure on. It's the ultimate test and a remedy against shyness." Here is the full interview in Italian.
