When DanceSport premiered in the Asian Games in 2010 Guangzhou, host nation China won every event that was contested then. And with four dances each in Latin and Standard contested as separate events - plus the two five-dance events - that amounted to a massive haul of gold for China. Read up on it here!
Well, China topped the overall medal table once again at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games with 150 golds, but at the same time it was its worst show since the 2002 Games in Busan, also in Korea.
Between them, the three sports that were dropped from the 2014 Incheon programme - DanceSport, cue sports and chess - generated nearly 20 golds for China at the 2010 Games. They are sorely missed by the Chinese press four years later. And it's not just China, the same applies to Korean and Japan as well.
Whether DanceSport will get reinstated in the programme of the Asian Games 2018 Jakarta, INA, the future will tell. What is certain: Wheelchair DanceSport will make its debut in the 2014 Incheon Asian Para Games next week already. More about that soon.
