Rome 2015
The IPC World Wheelchair DanceSport Championships will bring more than 150 athletes from 24 countries to Rome. They will compete at the "Bocciodromo," a venue more commonly used for the Italian-style game of bowls, between 6 and 8 November.
For the first time ever, the World Championships will feature freestyle and singles events. These new disciplines were only recently added to the official competition programme and increase the total number of medal events contested in Rome to 14 across the classes 1 and 2. About 270 performances are scheduled over the three days of competition.
If the previous World Championships held in Tokyo serve as a reference, Russian dancers should be considered among the favourites for titles in Rome. In 2013 they topped the medal tables with 13, three of them gold! But Poland, Ukraine and Austria all have reigning world or European medallists in their teams too, and athletes from Asian countries have emerged as strong contenders in recent years.
