Tougher on Cheats
Dopers in sport will face a minimum four-year ban under new rules which came into effect from 1 January. The recent changes to the World Anti-Doping Code - to which WDSF is a signatory - increased the time of suspension by two years.
Lenient on Others
While deliberate cheating automatically leads to the four-year ban, athletes guilty of “inadvertent doping” will receive a two-year ban. They can even get further reduction if they are able to present what the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) describes as “substantial proof that they were not at fault or intending to cheat.”
Less leniency is given for missed anti-doping tests. The sanction for missing three tests within a 12-month period has been increased from 18 months to two full years.
