LEDASA OPENS HER MAJESTY’S BIRTHDAY DANCESPORT CHAMPIONSHIP TO THE WORLD

Avatar In February 2004, the Lesotho DanceSport Association (LEDASA) Executive Committee approached Her Majesty to be its Life Patron to assist it in its endeavour to promote DanceSport in the country.  Her Majesty graciously accepted the request.  LEDASA felt very grateful that its request was granted, and therefore resolved to honour Her Majesty annually by celebrating Her Majesty’s birthday through a competition called “The Queen’s Birthday DanceSport Championship”.

This year, the competition is going to be different as it has been opened to other countries, hence the new title of the competition; ”The 1st Open Queen ’Masenate Dancesport Championship”.  Athletes from Botswana, Swaziland and South Africa will be competing at the competition.  The event was held at the Lehakoe Sports Hall on Saturday 7th June 2008 from 12.00 noon to 11.00 p.m.  The competition was to feature both the Standard (WALTZ, TANGO, SLOW FOXTROT, VINNESE WALTZ and QUICK STEP) and Latin (SAMBA, CHA-CHA, RUMBA, PASO DOBLE and THE LEGERNDARY JIVE) categories.  The competition bears no age restriction.  The highlight of the event was the Grant Prix section (Ten Dance, which is the two categories combined), whereby the recipient of the title will be determined.  Her Majesty was there to witness our athletes defend the title to remain here at home, and not to leave the country.

Invited special guests include the Honourable Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation, the Government Secretary, President of the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) and President of the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) Media Houses in general. The 1st Open Queen ‘Masenate DanceSport Championship was proudly sponsored by the Lesotho Government, through LSRC, Mountain Textile Screen (MTS) Printers, Global Conferences and Seminars (GCS), Epic Printers ,ANT Trading and Pioneer Auto Services.
