One by One

2015 Asian Single Dance The 2015 Asian Single Dance Championships are on tomorrow, Friday 19 June, to open up the weekend of top-level DanceSport in Hong Kong. Single Dance is an Asian competition format that has the five Latin and the five Standard dances contested individually, one by one, without an overall standing in either discipline, or for both together, being established at all.

It is with this Single Dance format that DanceSport premiered in the Asian, Asian Indoor and other Olympic Council of Asia endorsed  Games. Most memorable should be the results of the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games when China won all ten gold in DanceSport. But it is precisely the fact that a number of other contries won medals too - a full set is awarded for every discipline - that made this format so popular.

One of the particularities of a Single Dance Championship is that the number of participating couples is limited to four per nation. Two are entered for Latin, two for Standard, and each of the five dances is contested by a single couple representing the nation.

As it is already on location to prepare for the GrandSlam Hong Kong on Saturday and Sunday, the WDSF Communications teams will produce some coverage on the Asian Single Dance Championships too. Access the "Live from Hong Kong" blog here.
