Olympic DanceSport

Tokyo 2020 DanceSport's Olympic ambitions had stirred emotions across the worldwide community ever since WDSF and the sport were recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) 20 years ago. But never were expectations higher than over the past few months,  ever since the IOC had adopted its Agenda 2020 with the Recommendation #10 in December 2014.

Recommendation #10 changes the way that the Olympic Sports Programme is being reviewed prior to every edition of the Games from 2020. The review is no longer based on sports but on events, the International Federations are directly involved, and the Local Organising Committee for the Olympic Games can make proposals for certain events to be added to the programme.

WDSF submitted its official application for the inclusion of Latin and Standard as additional events in Tokyo 2020 at the beginning of June. Just two weeks later it was informed by the Tokyo organisers that DanceSport would not be evaluated further. Eight other sports and their events were put on a shortlist.
