Mongolian Formations On Their Way Up

MGL The WDSF World Formation Championships have long been a playground for the most established nations in DanceSport to put their mastery of Latin and Standard dances on an impressive display. Until now, Formation DanceSport was an almost exclusively European game.

This does not hold true any longer. Asia starts to contest the hegemony of Germany, Russia, Lithuania – the perennial champions in formation over the past five years – and it does so with ever more proficient teams from Mongolia.

Prof Helmut Roland of WDSF Communications recorded and depicted the formation from Ulaanbaatar, MGL, at the recent WDSF World Standard Formation in Braunschweig, GER.

Mongolian formations first broke onto the scene in 2010. This year they took 10th place in Braunschweig – as they did in Latin Formation last year – and they clearly continue on an ascent in both styles.

Much is being said about the freedom to dance these days. The fact that dancers from Mongolia can rely on a well functioning national federation and on the recognition and support by their National Olympic Committee, all that has much to do with such freedom too.
