Gaborone Congress

2015 Congress Botswana 110 couples, 100 officials (including judges, coaches and trainers), six countries and five international judges: these were the numbers for the WDSF Open and the Congress in Gaborone, BOT. Thanks to the Membership Commission and its chairman Marco Sietas, the development work that was started in Botswana and five other Southern African countries last year (read about it here) produced the first tangible results.

Saturday 16 May began with the national competitions where all the age groups and levels had the opportunity to try their hand. In the late afternoon there was an opening ceremony for the WDSF Open. Dancers and other representatives of Mozambique, Lesotho, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Botswana were involved. Of course, the President of the Botswana Dance Sport Association, Mr Tiroeanoe Mojatale, did the honours of declaring the competition open. WDSF Sports Director Marco Sietas brought the greetings of President Carlos Freitag and commended the work done by the various federations to achieve the important advances.

Sunday and Monday were used for the Congress. 100 people including managers, coaches, judges and dancers of all countries followed the lectures that were interesting and diverse. In addition to Marco Sietas who lectured on the structure of WDSF, Kevin Juul and Gianni Chiapperini taught Latin and Standard, respectively. Plus, through an agreement with the WRRC, Hungarians Miklos Horvath and Katalin Kis held a lecture on Rock 'n' Roll that all the participants very excited.
