That the World DanceSport Games 2013 would establish new benchmarks in all areas that are quantifiable ... Of course, we are talking about their first edition! That they would generate heaps of goodwill among those who were actively involved ... By definition! Yes, they were designed to put the athletes centre stage, for spectators to take in visual feasts over five consecutive days, and for volunteers to get up close with the best dancers from around the world, ... But in the final mix of things, the WDSG 2013 did much more than just break records.
732 athletes represented 49 countries in the contests staged over five days to determine the champions in 14 disciplines falling under the the diverse brand 'DanceSport' ... 96 judges evaluated the performances on the floor of the K-Afrena. 128 coaches and other officials looked after the participating athletes. And 800 volunteers catered to their every whim, treating them like royalty ... More?
600 rooms at four different hotels were used to accommodate the WDSG 2013 participants. 5,000 meals were dispensed over the five days. More?
Ten buses were used to transport the participants between the venue and their hotels with a non-stop shuttle service. More?
The Kaohsiung City Government assigned a staff of 900 to the organisation and the delivery of the WDSG 2013. 264 people were accredited as media personnel.
In the final analysis however, it is statements like the one below that made the inaugural edition of the WDSG 2013 a memorable one.
I just about recovered from an amazing experience at the World DanceSport Games. I have to say what made the event the best I have ever been to was the volunteers and how welcoming and caring they were. I have never met nicer people ...
