"I dance for the sport of it!" - "¡Yo bailo por deporte!"
The catchy slogan was certainly upheld in
- 7 National Competitions with an average of 150 couples entered
- 4 National Training Courses for Latin (with participants from other Latin American countries)
- 4 National Traning Courses for Standard (with participants from other Latin American countries)
- 2 National Adjudicatoers' Training Courses
- The first "Mitad del Mundo" (Half of the World) Opens in Latin and Standard (August)
For the latter, the Ecuadorean DanceSport Federation invited ten athletes from each Latin American country, assuming the costs for their transfers, lodging and meals. 86 athletes from abroad joined 36 from Ecuador for the two-day event. The Latin Open was contested by 31 couples from seven countries, the Standard Open by 24 couples from again seven countries.
Latin American Latin and Standard competitions saw an even higher number of entries: 170 athletes altogether.
DanceSport athletes and officials from Ecuador travelled abroad to
- Compete in WDSF Opens in Argentina (Buenos Aires) and Chile (Santiago)
- Attend a WDSF Adjudicators' Congress
The Ecuadorean DanceSport Federation is recognised by the National Olympic Committee.
