DanceSport in Southafrica
South Africa 2009Cape Town – South Africa’s „Mother City“ as locals call it – proudly as well as greatly hosted the 2009 National
Achiever & Championships. A congress and three full days of well organised competitions for all grades and ages were held in the Good Hope Centre downtown. The
tight programme of achievers’ and “Log Ladder” (the South African form of ranking lists) competitions culminated in a series of all championships and made all three days interesting as well as challenging.
A board of both national and international adjudicators (see photo), most professionally chaired by Katherine Gibbons envisaged proof of – as stated by a local politician – the “fastest (and as I dare to say in every aspect) growing” sport in South Africa.
The organising committee (lead by Vice President Lily Ford and National Technical Advisor Chris Bulpitt) did a great job under the
favoured presidency of Mr. Bernard Johnson. The audience enthusiastically welcomed the welcome speech given in Afrikaans (!) by IDSF General Secretary Marco Sietas.
