Preparations for the first edition of the WDSF World DanceSport Games were advanced significantly as two days of meetings come to a conclusion in the host city earlier today.
The local organising committee and representatives of WDSF as well as the Chinese Taipei DanceSport Federation met in Kaohsiung, TPE, to put the final touches on their preparations for the inaugural games taking place from 16 to 20 September 2013.
After a site inspection of the venue, the Kaohsiung Arena, it was agreed between all parties that the task at hands consists in making sure that DanceSport's return to the venue would be as much of a draw as the premiere in 2009. 13,000 spectators - i.e. sell-out crowds - on two consecutice days during The World Games 2009 made for one of the most impressive gates ever in the annals of this artistic sport. The impact that the Latin, Rock 'n' Roll and Standard tournaments had on Kaohsiung and its residents was one of the decisive factors that induced organisers and WDSF to opt for an "encore." And after all, it will be much more than an encore!
With many new DanceSport disciplines on programme in 2013, the overall draw is bound to be even greater. At the same time, the challenges for the world governing body as well as the City of Kaohsiung have multiplied as well.
Staging competitions in 13 very different DanceSport disciplines requires even more elaborate preparations in different areas. Broadcasting such an extravaganza across Taiwan and the world calls for solid concepts to be in place.
In the two days of meetings between the principal stakeholders in these games, it became more than obvious that the challenge is indeed a formidable one, but at the same time, one that both parties are willing to take on.
