Warsaw, Poland, October 25, 2024 – Today, DanceSport Europe (DSE) convened its Annual General Assembly, where DSE President Robert Wota spoke with the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) about DSE’s mission to strengthen DanceSport across Europe. In a post-AGA interview, Wota shared insights into the Association’s latest strategies for enhancing athlete participation and expanding event opportunities on the continent.

Strengthening European Leadership in DanceSport

In the interview, Wota discussed Europe’s prominent role in DanceSport, emphasizing the continent’s legacy and DSE’s pivotal relationship with WDSF. “Europe has always been at the forefront of DanceSport excellence, and as the WDSF’s Continental Association, we continue to foster that legacy,” Wota explained. A key focus, he noted, is widening the DanceSport community to include social and beginner dancers, “laying a foundation that benefits DanceSport Europe as well as the global WDSF family.”

Addressing Challenges Across Diverse Member Bodies

The AGA highlighted several challenges that DanceSport Europe faces, particularly in balancing the needs of member bodies of varying sizes and resources. “Countries have different DanceSport structures and needs,” Wota explained, pointing out that larger countries seek support for high-level events while smaller countries benefit more from entry-level resources. To address this, DSE plans to fund local competitions and training programs, ensuring all members can participate meaningfully in DanceSport’s growth.

Post-AGA Priorities: Growing the Sport and Engaging New Audiences

Looking ahead, Wota described DSE’s priorities for the coming year, with a strong emphasis on DSE’s latest initiative, Let’s Rediscover Europe. This project, as presented in the Annual General Assembly 2024 Booklet, is designed to encourage more Europeans to engage with DanceSport by supporting National Member Bodies in their development of athlete numbers, competitions, and community interest. “The project’s main target is children, young generations, and beginners who aren’t currently dancing or are just starting,” Wota explained. “We aim to unify dance standards across borders, making it easier for new dancers to grow, connect, and eventually compete internationally.”

AGA Reflections: A Productive and Efficient Meeting

Reflecting on the AGA experience, Wota expressed satisfaction with the meeting’s efficiency and outcomes, calling it “one of the shortest and most productive AGAs in memory.” He noted, “The discussions were concise, showing that our members felt engaged and confident in the direction DSE is taking.” This positive outcome, he added, underscores the clarity of DSE’s goals for advancing DanceSport across Europe.
