Come On Down!
That the fifth leg of the 2016 GrandSlam Series is salvaged is merely the first part of what must end up as a success story. The WDSF Managing Committe went to great length to avoid that the GrandSlam Moscow would get cancelled without a substitute taking place elsewhere.
Granted, the Series' commitments with sponsors as well as broadcasters had to be considered too. But first and foremost it was a matter of ensuring that every couple with a chance to make it to the Showdown in Shanghai, the GrandSlam Finals in December, would get a shot at qualifying. With four valid legs!
WDSF now counts on the couples to make it to Platja d'Aro in northeastern Spain for the GrandSlam Standard on 29 and the GrandSlam Latin on 30 October. Everybody knows that the organisation by Antonio Mas' staff will be impeccable, as always, and that the atmosphere at the Sports and Congress Centre in this resort town will again be exuberant.
Flights to and from Barcelona (or Girona) should be affordable, local transport and hotel accommodation too.
Check the website of the 2016 Platja d'Aro DanceSport Festival for all information regarding the GrandSlam. Help with invitational letters for visa applications is also provided through the website.
The members of the WDSF Managing Committee are aware that some couples might have booked on non-refundable return flights to Moscow and made payments to the GrandSlam organisers there already. Even if the situation regarding the status of the Russian DanceSport Union (RDSU) is not very clear at the moment, the committee members recommend that claims be sent immediately and directly to RDSU to BOTH of the following emails: [email protected], [email protected]g.
