Chinese city Wuxi to host annual Asian DanceSport Festival

Wuxi The World DanceSport Federation is glad to
announce the addition of an important new host city on the global DanceSport circuit: Wuxi, China.

Wuxi (pronounced woo-shee) is located in
Eastern China, about an hour-and-a-half drive from Shanghai. The city of roughly 7.5 million inhabitants has long been known as hub of cultural and artistic activity and is now actively looking to become a major player in the sports world as well.

An economic powerhouse in China, Wuxi is home to a remarkable number of world-class sports and
entertainment venues. Following a WDSF inspection visit to the city and its facilities earlier this year, it was agreed that Wuxi would not only host the first of four WDSF GrandSlam Series events (Latin and Standard) this year, but also organise an annual WDSF Asian DanceSport Festival every July, beginning this summer.

Wuxi The DanceSport Festival is set to feature the 2023 WDSF World Championship Standard on 21 July, training camps, a free-of-charge training session for dancers aged 21 and under, and Adjudicators Congress, while also being an excellent destination for athletes in the region to meet and compete at WDSF events.

“We are confident that all the dancers and officials who visit Wuxi will be impressed by the extremely high standards of the competition venues and their accommodation,” says WDSF President Shawn Tay. “Having visited them all myself I am happy to report that the facilities not only tick all our boxes, in many cases they far exceed them.”

We hope these events will provide a boost to our counterparts in Asia, as the region’s DanceSport communities continue to find their footing again following the difficulties of the COVID pandemic.

Wuxi The first WDSF GrandSlam Series event this year will be held from 22-23 July at the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Centre in Wuxi. More information on the 2023 GrandSlam Series can be found here.

The WDSF events will be among an estimated 100 sports events to be hosted in Wuxi this year alone, according to the Wuxi municipal bureau of sports. Other events include the World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series, the Wuxi Marathon (which attracted an impressive 27,000 participants from around the world in 2021), and competitions in aquatics, basketball, chess, and table tennis, to name a few.
