Anti-Doping III

Anti-Doping

If – as was suggested in an earlier article – ignorance or carelessness is often at the origin of positive doping tests, some simple adjustments on the part of the athletes are called for. Self-education is one of them.

For some time already, extensive information on anti-doping measures has been made available through this website. Considerable effort went into making the information in the section Anti-Doping easy to understand for a layperson.

Other parties to the worldwide fight against doping in sports – namely the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the national anti-doping organisations – have undertaken similar initiatives to educate athletes on how to avoid accidental positives.

One of the very best tools in this context was produced by Antidoping Switzerland. A smartphone application assists athletes in checking the status of their medication – purchased in Switzerland – against the WADA List. It is available in English but covers medications only under their brand name in Switzerland. The app is available for iPhone and Android.

The full WADA List of Prohibited Substances and Methods is also available as iPhone app or accessible through the mobile site.

Ignorance is never a valid excuse. And carelessness? Even less!
