2010 IDSF World Cup Standard
The IDSF Presidium awarded the rights to host the IDSF World Cup Standard to the city of Chengdu, China, last year with the aim to engage a new city in China to promote IDSF competitions.
With the support of our member in China, the CDSF, and the Chendu Sports Administration, the 2010 World Cup Standard together with the IDSF Open Latin took place at the Shuang Liu Sports Stadium on 7 August 2010, followed by the IDSF Open Standard on 8 July. The venue was packed with an enthusiastic audience. Most of them have never seen such high-level performances in DanceSport as exhibited by top IDSF athletes from 25 IDSF Member countries. Despite of the heat in the stadium, the energy and adrenalin of the athletes were soaring with Sergey and Olga Konovaltsev (Russia) winning the World Cup Standard while Martino Zanibellato and Michelle Abildtrup, DEN, and Marco Cavallaro and Joanne Clifton winning the IDSF Open Latin and Standard respectively.
The organiser fulfilled their responsibilities well and overwhelmed the officials and athletes with their warm and generous hospitality. IDSF officials and athletes were treated to 5-star hotel accommodation, welcome and farewell parties and transportation that ferried the athletes to and from the hotel in between events. Those who arrived earlier were treated to a day city tour, around the “Home of the Panda”.
The local hosts and organisers, when told of the need to display the IDSF flag, went all out to use the new IDSF logo as the main theme for all decorations including the IDSF corporate colours on umbrella displays which hung from the ceiling of the stadium. The IDSF logos were used on banners along the main road leading to the stadium, display boards around the dance floor, dividers on the balconies and backdrops on the stage. About 100,000 € were spent on decorations, lighting and sound to transform the sports stadium to a outstanding arena for DanceSport. The magnificent staging gave the new IDSF logo a chance to showcase its full potential, presenting a youthful and vibrant image.
At the end of the event, the officials from the Chengdu Sports Administration, the CDSF and the IDSF made an agreement to run an official IDSF event annually in this very important city in China.
Joining the city of Shanghai, Chengdu will now be the second Chinese city to host an annual event for IDSF from 2010.
Next year Chengdu will be the host city for the IDSF Grand Slam Latin in July.
