Important Definitions

International-Level Athlete (ILA)

Athletes who compete in sport at the international level, as defined by each International Federation, consistent with the International Standard for Testing and Investigations.

WDSF General Division Athletes who compete in any of the following international events in the current year or the year before: 

a) WDSF World Championships Latin Adult WDSF World Championships Standard Adult WDSF World Championships Breaking Adult

b) WDSF GrandSlam Latin WDSF GrandSlam Standard WDSF Professional Division

 Athletes who compete in any of the following international events in the current year or the year before: 

a) WDSF PD World Championships Latin Adult WDSF PD World Championships Standard Adult

b) WDSF PD Super Grand Prix Latin WDSF PD Super Grand Prix Standard WRRC Rock’n’Roll

Athletes who compete in any of the following international events in the current year or the year before: 

a) WRRC World Championships RR Main Class

 b) WRRC World Masters RR Main Class WRRC Boogie-Woogie 

Athletes who compete in any of the following international events in the current year or the year before: 

a) WRRC World Championships BW Main Class 

b) WRRC World Masters BW Main Class

National-Level Athlete (NLA)

Typically, athletes competing nationally, which could include those competing in national events, those in full-time training, and those receiving funding from sport or Governments. Most NADOs will determine who is considered a national-level athlete within their respective countries.

Talented and Youth Athletes: 

Athletes training regularly and committed to sport, identified as talented through some formal mechanism such as attending talent camps, or part of a talented development program. Talented/youth athletes may compete nationally or internationally at events such as the Youth Olympic Games. While these athletes may compete nationally or internationally, they should still be considered at the Talented stage for education purposes.

Athlete Support Personnel (ASP):

Any coach, trainer, manager, agent, team staff, official, medical, paramedical personnel, parent or any other Person working with, treating or assisting an Athlete participating in or preparing for sports Competition. 

Other Athlete Entourage: 

Any individuals who are naturally associated to athletes beyond the sport context, such as parents, guardians and friends; people with a particularly emotional bond to and influence over athletes. 

Wider DanceSport Audience: 

fans of the sport and the general public with a special interest or some level of involvement in DanceSport. This group also includes children/school sport participants and recreational athletes.

  • Event period: The Code states that the definition of event period “The time between the beginning and end of an event, as established by the ruling body of the event
  • In-competition period: The Code defines the in-competition period as “The period commencing at 11:59 p.m. on the day before a competition in which the athlete is scheduled to participate through the end of such competition and the sample collection process related to such competition.”
  • Out-of-competition period: The Code defines the out-of-competition period simply as “Any period which is not in-competition”.
