An Apology

2013 GS Final Standard © Goetz A great GrandSlam Final it was that ended on Sunday 15 December with the announcement of the winners in Standard.

Superb dancing in the final round had been rewarded with a record number of points by the panel of adjudicators. And the final results were as tight as they can get after the lead had swayed back and forth from one dance to the next.

When the actual runners-up, Simone Segatori and Annette Sudol, were erroneously announced as the winners – and the actual 2013 GrandSlam Champions, Emanuel Valeri and Tania Kehlet, were left flabbergasted in the line-up of finalists – all of the above continued to hold true.

A human error can cause dismay – and this one certainly did so too. We can only imagine the emotional roller coaster that both couples were put on by hearing – or not – their names after the Master of Ceremony announced: “And the winners are …” Only to have these same emotions reversed moments later!

The World DanceSport Federation wishes to reiterate in public its apology to the two couples and thank them for the impeccable attitude that they have shown in the face of the unfortunate incident.
