WADA Education and Awareness Campaign 02/06/2011

WADA

The campaign SAY NO! TO DOPING is intended to provide sports and anti-doping communities with a tool to draw attention to the commitment of athletes to compete free from doping by incorporating green sporting equipment into sport venues. The color green, which represents the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), evokes health, nature and, for some sports, the field of play.

WADA The SAY NO! TO DOPING campaign was officially launched in early May in collaboration with the International Ice Hockey Federation, whereby ice hockey players trained and warmed up using green pucks (normally black). These pucks became a springboard for discussion on fair play and doping-free sport.

“Having a common, easily recognisable message and symbol of clean sport is a good way to unite athletes worldwide in the fight against doping in sport,” said WADA President John Fahey. "The campaign will provide sports with a platform for building a global community of athletes that show pride in playing clean."

The International DanceSport Federation is now challenged to find a creative way of implementing the campaign based on WADA instructions.

  • Selecting a piece of equipment that is integral to your sport that will be produced in green.
  • Ensuring that the equipment includes “SAY NO! TO DOPING”, your logo and “in partnership with WADA” logo.
  • Developing a brochure or video explaining the significance of the green equipment and outlining reasons for athletes to say no to doping.
  • Finding opportunities, such as training camps or major competitions, to introduce athletes to the equipment.
  • Including the equipment during warm-up or incorporating it into events that have public and media attention.
  • Challenging athletes or teams to find other opportunities to use the equipment.
  • Creating a network, through your Web site or using social networking sites, where athletes and others can show their commitment to doping-free sport by adding pictures and videos or athletes playing “green".
