UNBREAKABLE 2017
As in any other dance event, the setting can heavily influence the way it is perceived by the insiders as well as the general public. Think of the Vienna City Hall or some of the other emblematic locations, where Standard couples simply seem to fit in better than elsewhere! Or think of the Paso Doble performed at The World Games 2013, at the bullfighting ring in Cali, COL! You get the idea.
UNBREAKABLE, one of most established breaking events in the world, is able to count on the perfect setting for this dance: the old Antwerp tramway depot.
The huge depot has long been converted into the Park Spoor Noord, the perfect venue for culture and sport, but it still has that urban feel to it that the breaking culture thrives on.
16 b-boys from 14 countries battled it out for the title in the one vs one. After a little less than two hours, B-Boy Kill from Korea was declared the winner.
Play-by-play and interview from our colleagues at RB BC One:
In the final Kill was up against B-Boy Kuzya, the defending champion and one of last year's B-Boy revelations. Both dancers went all in and gave a fine and impressive display of their unique styles and qualities. However B-Boy Kill who had saved his best for last did not feel sure about his final performance."In the final against Kuzya all I could think was, don't crash, don't crash.
Luckily I didn't crash and when after the winners' countdown they raised my arm high I could not believe I was the winner. This is really something I did not expect. I am so happy. Thank you!"
This video is from the YouTube channel of Danssport Vlaanderen! DanceSport Flanders and its 50,000 (fifty thousand) dancers are the perfect example how a side-by-side between different dance styles can work. We will take a look at it in an upcoming news item!
