Finally Federation
The Superior Sports Council (CSD), the ministry-level sporting authority in Spain, granted the WDSF National Member Body full recognition as a federation earlier this month. CSD authorised the addition of the Spanish DanceSport Federation to its register as the 65th official sports governing body.
Santiago Sáinz, the federation's vice-president, remembered some of the milestones in the long campaign to secure official CSD status.
In 2006, CSD recognised DanceSport as a "sporting activity that derives from what is generally known as ballroom dancing" and, three years later, admitted the predecessor organisation AEBD as a recognised "association".
CSD then proceeded to conduct an exhaustive study on DanceSport and its association which culminated in the elevation of the latter to the status of national sports federation. As of this moment, the new federation counts 2,242 licence holders and 130 clubs.
