DanceSport on the Olympic Channel
It was only in August 2016 that mention of the Olympic Channel was made for the first time in a news item published right after the conclusion of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. A little more than six months later, WDSF and the Olympic Channel confirm that they have concluded an agreement that aims to bring DanceSport coverage to the digital platform. Both parties released separate announcements today.
Here is the one of WDSF!
DANCESPORT ON THE OLYMPIC CHANNEL
The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) and the Olympic Channel have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that serves as the basis to the future cooperation between them. WDSF thus joins 48 other governing bodies, including International Sport Federations, IOC Recognised Federations, and IOC Recognised Organisations, who are collaborating with the global digital platform in providing fans and new audiences with a new way to engage with the Olympic Movement all year round.
“The Olympic Channel provides a platform for the promotion of all sports and athletes within the Olympic Movement,” said Mark Parkman, General Manager of the Olympic Channel. “We are excited to work together in our collective efforts to help expand the reach of these sports through the creation and distribution of content to audiences worldwide.”
“The World DanceSport Federation is proud to work with the Olympic Channel to distribute our content to a wider audience,” WDSF President Lukas Hinder commented the cooperation. “Particularly in view of the fact that Breaking (Breakdance) has been added to the programme of the Summer Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, the synergies between the Channel and our sport stand to set promising benchmarks for both.
“The qualifying process for YOG 2018 should generate spectacular images of talented B-Boys/Girls from around the world giving it their all to be in these Games, and their ‘Road to Buenos Aires’ will be prominently featured on the Olympic Channel,” Hinder concluded.
In addition to coverage of Breaking in the YOG 2018 qualifiers, WDSF will provide highlights, news and features of its other disciplines, including Acrobatic Rock ‘n’ Roll, Boogie Woogie and Formation, to the Channel.
The Olympic Channel, which recently announced the availability of multiple languages on the global digital platform, is currently scheduled to present nearly 500 competitions across nearly 200 events in 2017. The Channel provides an ancillary platform to distribute content and collaborations to broadcast live events are complementary to current broadcast and distribution arrangements.
The Olympic Channel is a multi-platform destination where fans can experience the power of sport and the excitement of the Olympic Games all year round, and is available worldwide via mobile apps for Android and iOS devices and at olympicchannel.com.
