DanceSport in the Olympic Capital
DanceSport was presented at The Olympic Museum Lausanne, SUI, as part of a promotional event for The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung
held there on 18 June. The International World Games Association (IWGA) and the Kaohsiung Organizing Committee (KOC) were invited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to showcase the upcoming edition of the games with a 5-week exhibition and demonstrations
of some of the featured sports.
Exactly one month prior the Opening Ceremony, five athletes who compete in 2009 Kaohsiung traveled to Lausanne. The world #1s in Freeflying (Air Sports) and Rock ‘n’ Roll (DanceSport) launched the final countdown to the games by demonstrating
their high-flying disciplines on the premises of The Olympic Museum.
Maurizio and Jade Mandorino (SUI) – 2007 World Champions in Acrobatic Rock ‘n’ Roll – and three other couples of different age grades dazzled everyone with their breathtaking shows of nearly one hour each. Visitors of all ages were clapping along as they performed
in front of the museum's entrance.
The spectacular demonstrations were the highlight of the official inauguration for the exhibition “Top Sports – High Spirits.” Interactive information terminals and life-sized photography familiarize the museum visitors with the sports as well as the spirit of games which unite athletes in the pursuit of excellence and in a celebration of friendship.
IWGA President Ron Froehlich and KOC Managing Director Shyh-fang Liu presided over the inauguration. They both thanked the IOC for its long-standing support to The World Games and expressed confidence that the 2009 edition will live up to the highest expectations in one month’s time.
