April 2012

Vision 2012

The members of the Strategic Planning Group met in April to take stock of the progress made in the implementation of the VISION 2012 development plan.

Then the group proceeded to outline the key strategic focus areas for the next cycle in the federation's efforts to improve the positioning of DanceSport and its world governing body. Always in perfect alignment with the values that should get promoted!

The group singled out the following focus areas as the most important, in alphabetical oder:

Communications and Branding

Strengthen and unify the WDSF brand while bringing DanceSport to the largest audiences.

External Perception

Seek reassurance that the external perception is always consistent with the WDSF vision of dance as sport (e.g. through surveys)

Review of Activities and Sporting Competitions

Refine existing competition formats further, create new ones, ensure that these are attractive for athletes and spectators alike (e.g. team events).

WDSF DanceSport Academy

As the cornerstone to the future development of DanceSport, a full range of educational programmes is offered to the membership through an innovative academy concept.

VISION 2012 had been adopted by the General Meeting in 2011 and all parties were active in implementing it. The Strategy Group has now started to look beyond and to define new ambitious goals as VISION 2020. DanceSport being placed on the shortlist for the Olympic Sports Programme is one of them! By working towards this goal and putting emphasis on creativity and innovation in the work of the WDSF, great changes are bound to take place for the benefit of the sport, even if the Olympic goal is not attained by 2020.
