2017 Wroclaw, POL

The World Games 2013 Cali | Standard © Camacho The World Games, the quadrennial multi-sport games featuring over 30 different sports and bringing together more than 4,000 athletes for ten days of top-level competition, will be held in Wroclaw, POL. The 2017 Wroclaw dates are 20 to 30 July!

The tenth edition of these games will be the first one held under the terms of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International World Games Association (IWGA).

The MoU was drafted on the premises of Recommendation # 6 of the IOC AGENDA 2020 that calls for IOC and IWGA to "collabrate closely regarding the sports programme composition and the respective evaluations." This bodes well for DanceSport: it will be present in Wroclaw with its biggest contingent of athletes ever: 152 total! They will contest gold, silver and bronze medals in four different DanceSport disciplines:

  • Latin
  • Rock 'n' Roll
  • Salsa
  • Standard

The DanceSport events are scheduled on the second weekend of 2017 Wroclaw, on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 July, just prior to the Closing Ceremony on 30 July. They take place at what must be the most perfectly suited venue: the Centennial Hall, a UNESCO World Heritage site. With about 7,000, capacity is lower than in Cali (17,000) or Kaohsiung (13,000), but the declared goal of WDSF is to produce sell-outs again.

On Monday 16 Januray, the WDSF Office in Spain sent the invitational letters to the National Member Bodies that have athletes who qualified for the Latin, Salsa or Standard events, and the World Rock 'n' Roll Confederation will likely start the notification process in the coming weeks.
